Senior Support Worker - Children's Residential Home

We've got an exciting new opportunity with a progressive and trauma-informed group of Children's Homes. They're on the lookout for a dedicated Senior Support Worker to join the team in Chippenham.

This is a rare chance to join a company that genuinely focuses on the values and guidelines of a Therapeutic Community. This specific role is based in a three-bed residential home that specialises in providing care for young people with learning difficulties and emotional and behavioural difficulties.

What's in it for you?

Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus bonuses and a pension.

Sleep-in Shifts: Paid at £63 per night. With one sleep-in per week, the average salary for a Senior Support Worker comes to an impressive £35,000 per annum.

Annual Leave: You'll get 28 days of annual leave, plus an additional 3 paid wellness shifts per year.

Shift Pattern: You'll work two shifts a week from 07:30 to 21:30, totalling 42 hours per week. My client is also open to being flexible with these shift patterns.

Your Role as a Senior Support Worker

As a Senior Support Worker, you will be a vital part of the team, leading Support Workers and helping young people with EBD and learning difficulties. This role is definitely challenging, but the rewards are truly incomparable. The small things you do every day can have a life-changing impact on the young people in your care, helping them take significant steps toward fulfilling their potential.

Your main duties will include:

Assisting the management team in the day-to-day running of the home and developing quality therapeutic services.

Ensuring the safety and safeguarding of both children and staff at all times.

Making sure the home exceeds all standards set out in the Children’s Home Regulations 2015.

Building empathetic and engaging relationships with young people, their families, and other professionals.

Providing dynamic leadership and acting as a positive role model for your team.

Promoting team development and understanding how things like vicarious trauma can affect the team's dynamics.

Participating in a wide range of fun and innovative activities within the home and the wider community.

Helping with practical daily tasks like cooking, cleaning, and washing.

Meeting the physical, emotional, and cultural needs of the young people in your care.

Engaging in reflective practice to help integrate and uphold a therapeutic approach.

Maintaining accurate and reflective paperwork that effectively evidences the progress of the children.

Ensuring all Health and Safety and financial regulations are followed.

Promoting and implementing the company’s attachment-based and trauma-informed policies and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications You'll Need

Essential:

A minimum of one year of experience in a Residential Children’s Social Care setting, ideally as a support worker.

An understanding of Trauma-Informed Care and a therapeutic background.

Strong leadership skills, effective communication, and a genuinely nurturing approach.

A Level 3 NVQ diploma in Residential Childcare or a willingness to work towards it.

A UK Driving License.

Confidence and knowledge of the Children’s Home Regulations and other relevant legislation.

A clear DBS check and positive references.

The ability to handle challenging situations with a nurturing, non-consequential approach while setting appropriate boundaries.
