Hours: 17.5 hours per week contract, (0.5 FTE). Flexible working.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and passionate Community Event Coordinator, with experience of coordinating community Projects, to join the Rutherglen 900 team and support an ambitious programme of community and culture across Rutherglen.
The post is funded by South Lanarkshire Council for 20 months (August 2025 – April 2027). The Community Event Coordinator will spend a significant proportion of their time working alongside Rutherglen 900 steering group, Rachel O’Neill Rutherglen 900 project lead and various partners. The role will have a key position helping to facilitate, attend and promote Rutherglen 900 events across Rutherglen.
The Rutherglen 900 organisation was set up to promote the Royal Burgh of Rutherglen and to promote interest and participation in the celebration of Rutherglen’s 900th anniversary. In 2026 Rutherglen, in South Lanarkshire will celebrate the 900th anniversary of becoming a Royal Burgh. Working with communities to celebrate people and place, Rutherglen will be hosting a year-long programme of events including arts, heritage, environment, wellbeing and sports in conjunction with our local communities, partners, stakeholders, and volunteers. This programme marks a significant moment in Rutherglen’s history which will celebrate Rutherglen locally and nationally capturing the ambition of its people, their culture and future.
Our aim is to create a programme that is accessible to and specific to the communities of Rutherglen and that will invest in a legacy, connect communities, promote creativity, amplify young people’s voices, empowering individuals and community groups, developing relationships with partners and stakeholders, build community locally and nationally, work towards shaping the future
Rutherglens programme of events will take place throughout 2026 across all of the communities of Rutherglen and will be hosted in a variety of community venues and outdoor locations. The programme consists of a launch event, a schools programme, key community events, library and museums programme, outdoor community engagement activities, and various art, sports and environment activities.
Salary: £26,000 (pro rata) with 8% employer contribution pensions scheme after 3 months for 20 months (August 2025 – April 2027).
