Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to work within a small, specialised team managing patients referred in for 2ww diagnostic colonic investigations.
The purpose of this role will be to support in the review of patients referred into the RCCD Rapid Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis 2ww pathway in a non-patient facing role, over two days per week.
This is a non-patient facing role. Strong communications skills are essential to ensure accurate information is given and received over the phone with patients, and that this is transcribed accurately into an electronic referral and/or detailed letter to both patients and healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities will include:
To work, as part of a small team, through the daily referrals for patients referred in on the RCCD pathway and to review their referral against the pathway criteria.
To support the vetting of the patients referred in on the colorectal RCCD 2ww referral pathway.
To assess patients over the phone for their diagnosis procedure, giving them all the information needed, answering their questions honestly and coordinating the date for their procedure with both Endoscopy and Radiology
To ensure the GP and the administration team are fully informed of the investigation plan and there is a documented record of this.
To deliver, develop and maintain a quality, patient centred pathway of care

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Working hours are usually Monday to Friday.
Flexibility is required to cover later finishing clinical activity but usually based around 8am to 6pm.
Usual patterns of working would be over two days. This day may vary week-by-week, although there is potentially the option of a fixed day off if the clinical workload allows.
There may be an opportunity to work remotely once the supernumerary period had been completed and competencies have been signed off.
There may be the need to provide a 7-day service in the future resulting in weekend working being required.

Training & Qualifications
* BSc in Nursing or similar health specialism or working Desire to do MSc
* MSC in Nursing or similar health specialism or working/committed to completing. Non-Medical Prescriber IRMer Certified (Independent Radiology Non-Medical Requester)
* Non-Medical Prescriber.
* IRMeR Certified (Independent Radiology Non-Medical Requester)
Experience
* Currently working in Acute Colorectal/Endoscopy area as a Band 5/6
* Assessing patients suitability for radiological or endoscopy investigations
* Experience of interpreting patients results
* Telephone assessment experience for assessing patients suitability for radiological or endoscopy investigations
* Experience of working to a pathway or algorithm
Communication
* Basic computer skills
* Experience of using Excel Spreadsheets
* Experience of communication within a Multi-Disciplinary Team
* Experience of communicating sensitive information and bad news
* Advanced Communication Course
* Previous experience of full medical assessment
