An independent specialist school in East Sussex is seeking a committed and experienced Head of English to join its team on a temporary basis. This is a unique opportunity to lead a small, dedicated department within a school renowned for its expertise in supporting students with dyslexia and related learning differences. Set in a stunning historic estate in rural East Sussex, the school offers a nurturing and highly individualised learning environment for students aged 7-19. With small class sizes and a strong emphasis on pastoral care, it provides tailored support for learners who thrive in a structured, empathetic setting.
Your new role
Lead the English department, delivering engaging and differentiated lessons across KS3 and KS4
Support students with specific learning needs, including dyslexia and speech/language challenges
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic student development
Contribute to curriculum planning, assessment, and departmental leadership
What you'll need to succeed
Qualified teacher with leadership experience in English
Strong understanding of SEN and inclusive teaching strategies
Passionate about supporting neurodiverse learners
