Graduate Site Engineer
Business Unit: Transmission Overhead Lines (OHL) – Scotland
Reports To: Site Engineer / Project Manager
Location: Scotland (site-based with travel across projects)
Contract Type: Permanent / Full-time
Role Purpose
To support the safe and efficient delivery of Overhead Line (OHL) construction and refurbishment projects by assisting in the planning, coordination, surveying, and engineering activities on site. The Graduate Site Engineer will work under the guidance of experienced Engineers and Project Managers, gaining hands-on experience across civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines while developing the technical and leadership skills required for future engineering and project management roles within the business.
Key Responsibilities
Site Engineering Support
1. Assist in setting out and surveying works for access tracks, tower foundations, steelwork, and conductor installations.
2. Support site engineers with daily checks, quality inspections, and record keeping.
3. Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with design drawings, specifications, client standards and Omexom safe systems of work.
4. Assist in compiling final records, inspection and test plans and as-built records.
5. Support the coordination of subcontractors, plant, and materials on site.
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)
6. Promote a strong safety culture in line with Omexom values and procedures.
7. Participate in daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
8. Ensure all site activities comply with Omexom and client environmental and quality standards.
9. Report near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.
Technical & Project Support
10. Assist with the preparation of method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and work packs.
11. Work with design and project teams to resolve technical queries and ensure constructability.
12. Contribute to daily site diaries and progress reporting.
Learning & Development
13. Gain experience across the full project lifecycle — from pre-construction and access planning through to commissioning and handover.
14. Participate in internal training via the Omexom Institute or equivalent programmes.
15. Develop technical knowledge of OHL systems, construction methodologies, and safety requirements for working at height and near live networks.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
16. Degree or HNC/HND in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline).
17. Strong interest in power transmission, infrastructure, or construction sectors.
18. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
19. Confident using surveying equipment (GPS, total station) and interpreting technical drawings.
20. Good IT skills (MS Office, AutoCAD, or similar).
21. Willingness to travel and work across remote project locations.
22. Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
23. Relevant placement or site experience within utilities, renewables, or infrastructure projects.
24. Awareness of CDM Regulations and site safety requirements.
25. Understanding of NEC contract principles and site documentation processes.
