The Rail Delivery Group is looking for a Senior Project Manager, with a recent rail industry experience and an in-depth understanding of the industry landscape and challenges. The successful candidate’s initial assignment will be to deliver the roll out of a Passenger Information System to UK stations, following a successful trial in 2024-2025.

This will involve employing both project management tools and techniques and excellent people skills.
What can I expect to do in this job?
This isn’t an exhaustive list; however, you can expect to be involved in the following:
* Planning what work needs to be done, when and who’s going to do it;
* Looking at the risks involved in a particular project and managing these risks;
* Motivating people involved in the project;
* Co-ordinating work done by different people, with responsibility for the work to be done to the agreed standard;
* Working with multiple third party suppliers;
* Responsible for the project running on time and to budget;
* Dealing with changes to the project as and when necessary;
* Driving the project to deliver the expected outcomes and benefits; and
* Working to the RDG Project Delivery Framework and ensuring that other do too.

What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?
We are looking for a Senior Project Manager who can demonstrate solid experience of delivering complex projects within the UK rail industry sector.
Essential Skills and experience:
* Knowledge / experience of work on infrastructure / engineering or manufacturing projects will be beneficial, as will be specialist skills obtained in these types of projects;
* Experience of working with equipment installations / surveyors / progressing landlord consents / site inspections will be beneficial;
* Experience of managing delivery via 3rdparty suppliers;
* Understanding of various types of contracts;
* Experience of scope definition, then managing project scope and changes;
* Preparing estimates and a detailed project plan for all phases of the project;
* Procuring adequate resources to achieve project objectives within planned timeframes;
* Managing project budgets and cost control experience;
* Managing risk, understanding the risk context and demonstrating a range of risk management techniques;
* Experience in dealing with and managing external resource, including third party contracts and procurement;
* Managing quality and participating in quality issue resolution;
* Managing all aspects of multiple related projects to ensure an overall programme is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives;
* Understanding interdependencies between technology, operations and business needs.
