Production Planner salary: £34,500 – £40,000

Production Planner Overview:
Plan, route and release works orders daily to keep production flowing to priority
Own ERP routings and planning data so lead times and workflow stay accurate
Keep BOM and planning records clean, correcting errors before they hit the shop floor
Control the planning impact of engineering changes and keep manufacturing aligned
Improve delivery performance through clear communication and practical CI in planning
This Production Planner role reports to the Production Manager and is central to keeping work moving efficiently through a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment. The Production Planner will plan, route and release works orders, ensuring materials, information and capacity are aligned across Engineering, Manufacturing and Purchasing. The Production Planner will also maintain ERP routes and planning BOM data, manage planning activity around engineering changes, and support improvements that strengthen delivery performance and factory workflow.
Day-to-day responsibilities of a Production Planner
Create, plan, and route work orders through the manufacturing process
Generate and maintain production routes within the ERP system
Understand raw material and component requirements for manufactured parts
Release works orders daily in line with production priorities and capacity
Print and prepare works orders, drawings and documentation for manufacture
Create and review planning BOM reports and correct planning/BOM errors
Process and manage engineering change requests through planning and manufacturing
Support make/buy decisions with Engineering and Purchasing
Communicate priorities, issues and progress clearly to production teams
Support continuous improvement activity within planning and production
What they’re looking for - Production Planner
Experience in production planning or manufacturing planning within an engineered manufacturing environment
Confident using an ERP/MRP system to create routings, release works orders and manage planning data
Good understanding of manufacturing workflow and how planning impacts delivery
Able to read drawings and understand BOM structures well enough to spot issues early
Detail-focused and organised, comfortable working at pace with changing priorities
Clear communicator who can coordinate across Engineering, Purchasing and Production
Solid basic IT skills, including Excel and day-to-day ERP use
Strong awareness of Health & Safety in a manufacturing settingDesirable - Production Planner
Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (or similar ERP)
Experience managing planning BOMs and routings in Business Central
Understanding of capacity planning and scheduling principles
CI/Lean/5S exposure in planning or production environments
Background in low-volume, high-mix manufacturing
