Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Substantive Consultant Community / Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician (7.5 PAs), based primarily at Epsom General Hospital. This post is a direct replacement for a retiring consultant and forms part of an integrated paediatric service delivering both acute and community paediatrics.
The post holder will provide high-quality community paediatric care, with a particular focus on neurodevelopmental and neurodisability services, including multidisciplinary clinics for children with cerebral palsy. The role involves close working with multidisciplinary teams, education services, and partner agencies to support children with complex developmental needs.
The successful applicant will join a well-established team of paediatric consultants and trainees and will contribute to service development, clinical governance, teaching, and quality improvement across community paediatrics.
Main duties of the job
* Deliver community paediatric outpatient clinics, including neurodevelopmental and neurodisability clinics.
* Undertake assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing management of children with developmental delay, ASD, ADHD, DCD, and neurodisability including cerebral palsy.
* Participate in multidisciplinary clinics and joint working with therapy services and education partners.
* Provide medical advice and reports to support Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) assessments.
* Ensure high standards of clinical care in line with GMC guidance and Trust policies.
* Contribute to clinical governance activities, including audit, peer review, and service improvement.
* Support teaching and supervision of junior doctors, trainees, and medical students.
* Participate in appraisal, revalidation, and job planning processes.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across paediatrics and partner organisations to support integrated service delivery.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive community paediatric service, including neurodevelopmental and neurodisability clinics.
* Undertake developmental assessments and manage children with ASD, ADHD, DCD, and global developmental delay.
* Deliver multidisciplinary neurodisability clinics for children with cerebral palsy.
* Prepare high-quality medical advice and reports for EHCP processes and other statutory assessments.
* Maintain responsibility for the clinical management of patients under your care.
* Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with information governance requirements at all times.
Teaching, Training and Education
* Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
* Supervise and support paediatric trainees and junior doctors attached to the service.
* Contribute to departmental teaching, peer review, and continuing professional development activities.
Clinical Governance, Audit and Research
* Actively participate in Trust clinical governance arrangements.
* Undertake and support audit and service evaluation.
* Engage in research and quality improvement activity where appropriate.
* Maintain professional development in line with Royal College and GMC requirements.
Management and Leadership
* Contribute to service planning and development within community paediatrics.
* Work collaboratively with Clinical Leads, the Clinical Director, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
* Support effective use of Trust resources and participate in agreed management arrangements.
* Attend and contribute to departmental and Trust meetings as required.

Qualifications and Training
* Hold a medical qualification or qualification registered with the GMC.
* On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview.
* MRCPCH or equivalent.
* Level 3 child protection.
* CCT or SPIN in community child health.
* Post graduate diploma or MSc in Paediatrics and Child Health: Community Child Health.
* Evidence of relevant research.
* Trained in ADOS.
* Relevant training in management of patients with cerebral palsy.
* Relevant training in other areas of neurology / neurodisability / neurodevelopment.
Clinical Experience
* High standard of clinical skill and expertise in a broad range of paediatrics including developmental assessment and educational paediatrics.
* Experience of neurodevelopmental assessment and management including ASD, ADHD, DCD.
* Experience of managing children with neurodisability including cerebral palsy.
* A willingness to develop a subspecialty interest.
Management & Administrative Experience
* Audit/Research.
