Public Health Support Officer (PR & Comms) Permanent Grade B - £28,598 - £34,434 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week This full-time position will be within the Deputy Director team focusing on our PR and Communications / Social Marketing. This position is within the Health Promotion Team which is part of the Head of Office team. The Public Health Division works across the council plan and is responsible for providing strategic leadership to develop the Council into a local authority that actively promotes population health. This will be achieved by being able to visualise and describe what a healthy Birmingham looks like and then equip others to share our vision and take action. We achieve this by championing the improved health and wellbeing of all citizens, but especially the most vulnerable. Our vision is to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of Birmingham’s population by reducing inequalities in health and enabling people to help themselves. Through the Covid Pandemic and beyond, the Public Health Division has invested heavily in engagement and partnership working and demonstrated the importance of the Healthy Brum corporate brand for health improvement information dissemination as a trusted source for partners and citizens. The post continues to build on this learning and embed a formal matrix communication and PR function working between the Public Health division, managed by the Head of Office, and the Corporate Communications function accountable within the communication structure. We are looking for a PR and Communications Support Officer who will be able to assist and work to the Senior Officer and to support the wider Public Health team here at Birmingham City Council. This role will report to the Senior Officer. The role focuses on the delivery of Public Health campaign across various channels. Birmingham has a growing reputation on an international stage for its role in responding to health inequalities and improving the lives of its citizens. The team works with a wide range of stakeholders to improve health and wellbeing, including internal directorates, Integrated Care System, NHS trusts, the third sector and commissioned services. What we are looking for: You will have experience of working flexibly, proactively, in a matrix way to ensure business objectives are met Experience in engaging with a wide audience through social media channels and other social marketing methods Experience or a keen interest in understanding Public Health priorities and the relevant policy environment Ability to manage projects and knowledge on scoping projects stating aims objectives and milestones, underpinned by effective IT skills Experience of identifying and analysing a wide range of data sets and other intelligence to inform work and communicating information and concepts to a diversity of audiences Preparing reports and presentations through collation and analysis of data to inform decision making Planning and organising events, meetings and workshops from design stage to implementation Sound communication skills including the ability to make use of different types of social media Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing demands Ability to work flexibly as part of a diverse team, providing cover when needed to ensure continuity of service provision A motivated and enthusiastic self -starter that is willing to learn new concepts and take on additional learning and training where required Interviews for this post will take place in-person at the Council House Complex in January 2026 For any informal enquires please contact: Resourcing&64;birmingham.gov.uk Please upload your up-to-date CV via the attachments part of your application, this is required for shortlisting.
