Overview

As one of the largest further and higher education colleges in the UK, with unique colleges across two counties, we aim to deliver learning experiences which lead to the development of wider skill bases and improved destinations for all of our students. Main Tasks

* Teaching – contribute to the teaching programme delivering the subject.
* Preparation and Assessment – develop and produce teaching materials, plan and assess the course, produce relevant scheme and keep accurate records.
* Administration – undertake administrative tasks relating to the programme(s) that you teach on and College requirements, under the guidance of the Head of Department.
* Quality Systems – undertake internal verification as required by the line manager; participate in the college’s lesson observation process with an observed lesson each academic year.
* Health and Safety – ensure a safe working environment for colleagues, students and visitors in line with the HASAW Act and the College Health and Safety Policy.
* Safeguarding – safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults for whom you are responsible and whom you come into contact with.

During busy exam periods you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training. These duties are not exhaustive but outline the main features of the post at appointment and may vary as the job evolves.


Offers of Work

For the successful candidate a conditional offer of work will be made. The offer will be conditional upon a number of mandatory pre‑employment checks, including DBS, Barred List check, right‑to‑work check, internet search, TRA check (academic posts).


Qualifications and Experience

* A degree in Maths or related disciplines such as Engineering.
* GCSE grade A‑C or equivalent qualification in Maths and English.
* Teacher Training Qualification or willingness to undertake the courses required to gain one.
* Experience of teaching GCSE and FS Maths, preferably in Further Education.
* Strong administrative and IT skills.
* Willingness to undertake continuing professional development and maintain CPD, updating industry‑specific skills annually.


Desirable Attainments

* Previous experience of teaching at the relevant level and subject.
* Understanding of challenges in Maths teaching and drive to achieve targets.
* Excellent organisational, time‑keeping and time‑management skills with ability to meet deadlines and targets.
* Excellent interpersonal skills for teamwork and effective communication with students and industry organisations.
* Self‑motivated with the ability to motivate others and enthusiasm for personal and college development.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure.
* Commitment to equal opportunities, inclusive learning, widening participation and lifelong learning.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
* Understanding of Equality & Diversity and the core values of the college.
* Working knowledge of information technology such as e‑mail, the internet and other software applications.


Safety and Compliance

Any offers of appointment will be subject to a disclosure and banning service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, satisfactory references, occupational health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualification verification. An enhanced DBS check is required because this position is within regulated activity. It is an offence to apply if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.


Salary

This role is pro rata, so the salary will be £22,272.80–£31,137.60 per annum.
