Trainee Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist

We are looking for a highly motivated and hardworking individual to work as a Trainee Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist. We are committed to training and development of our staff and as such, qualified respiratory and sleep physiologists will teach you to perform and report routine lung function testing and pass ARTP qualifications.
In addition to performing clinical activities such as routine lung function and sleep study setups, you will support the Lead and Deputy Lead Respiratory and Sleep Clinical Scientist in various administrative tasks concerned with the day to day running of the service. This is an excellent opportunity to start a career in Respiratory and Sleep Physiology within one of the premier departments within the South-Central region.
You may on occasion be required to work across different hospital sites (Andover and Winchester) but we will prioritise shifts at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. You will work within a team of ten Respiratory and Sleep Physiologists which currently includes, Lead Clinical Scientist (band 8a), Deputy Lead Clinical Scientist (band 7), two Senior Respiratory and Sleep Physiologists (band 6), two Respiratory and Sleep Physiologists (band 5), two Trainee Respiratory and Sleep Physiologists (band 4), one Trainee Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist (band 3) and a Trainee Clinical Scientist (band 6).

Main duties of the job
* To perform the following routine respiratory and sleep diagnostic tests to nationally recognised standards for accuracy and quality:
* ‑Spirometry ± bronchodilator response testing
* ‑Gas Transfer
* ‑FeNO
* ‑Haemoglobin POCT testing
* Provide administrative support to the Lead and Deputy Lead Respiratory and Sleep Clinical Scientists by undertaking various tasks such as:
* ‑Clinical audits
* ‑Provision of activity data relating to the various clinics run by the service, including attendance, DNA, clinic utilisation etc
* ‑Provision of minutes from sleep meetings and Sleep MDT meetings
* ‑Ordering of stock
* ‑Checking staff rota is correct to clinics that are open for bookings
* ‑Support the Physiology Quality Assurance lead in tasks relating to IQIPS accreditation
* To ensure that all equipment is maintained in a fully functional state with adherence to appropriate quality control
* To record accurately patient information and maintain records and test results. Organise requests for inpatients and last-minute outpatient bookings. Ensure test results are communicated to the relevant specialities
* To ensure that the department’s activities are carried out in accordance with the Trust policies and protocols on infection control, risk management, data protection and Health and Safety

Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
* A minimum of 3 A levels including biology or human biology or physical education
* Foundation degree in Healthcare Science or related subject
* ARTP Associate Practitioner or ARTP Part 1 Qualification
Experience & Knowledge
* Enjoy patient/customer contact and working as part of a team
* Experience of working in a customer or healthcare environment
* Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology
Skills & Ability
* Good standard of English and numeracy
* Motivation to work towards essential work based qualifications
* Previous experience of working in the field of physiology/respiratory medicine
Other Specific Requirements
* Valid driving license and use of a vehicle
