The Practice Development Nurse / Midwife (PDN/M) will work predominantly within their designated service working closely with other members of the nursing & midwifery team to plan, implement and evaluate the development of staff. They will coordinate and embed learning and development ensuring that staff are competent and capable to undertake their roles.
The PDN/M will work to identify learning needs, plan and implement any training required and continuously evaluate staff competence to ensure that development is aligned to and informs local and national priorities.
Main duties of the job
The PDM will be expected to:
• Promote high standards of patient care through demonstration of clinical expertise
• Facilitate creation of a positive learning environment in the work place where staff development is encouraged and supported
• Facilitate induction education including preceptorship and continuing professional development for all levels of registered and non-registered nursing and midwifery staff within the clinical teams
• Work alongside staff in individual teams undertaking a key role in practice development
• Support the delivery of educational activities including medical device training, clinical skills training, International Midwife OSCE training programme, student placements and competency development
• Maintain clinical credibility by regularly undertaking working within the clinical team.
• Support recruitment initiatives to enable development of an effective midwifery workforce
• Support students in clinical placements including pre-registration students, nursing apprenticeships and T Level students
• Support Maternity Support Workers / Theatre Support Workers in completion of the Care Certificate and competencies
• The PDM will work closely with the divisional and corporate teams to ensure that national and local workforce and development strategies are aligned, communicated and embedded into their designated service with specific focus on staff development and training
• Maintaining professional registration through clinical work

All successful applicants will be required to complete our corporate trust induction once a start date had been agreed.
Following your corporate induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Essential criteria
5. Registered Nurse / Midwife on the NMC register
6. Educated to degree level or demonstrate equivalent experience
7. To be a Practice Assessor and have experience of supporting learners
8. Relevant qualification or training in teaching and assessing (or willingness to undertake)

9. PGCE (or equivalent experience to postgraduate diploma level)
