Consultant Head and Neck ENT Surgeon
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers a consultant ENT surgeon role with interests in head and neck surgery and laryngology. The successful candidate will join a team of head and neck surgeons and laryngologists, providing comprehensive services to the local population and tertiary care for a population extending across Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team including SALT, dietetics, radiology, pathology and CNS teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Actively involved in the head and neck 2‑week wait pathway.
* Manage patients with upper aerodigestive tract malignancies.
* Involve in laryngology including voice clinics and management of patients with upper airway stenosis.
* Contribute to the delivery of a head and neck diagnostic service.
* Work within UK CCT framework for Otolaryngology and contribute to audit management and improvement projects.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent.
* Higher qualification in specialty e.g. FRCS.
* 5 years post‑CCT experience.
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible within six months of receipt of CCT at interview.
Aptitudes and Skills
* Appropriate knowledge base and sound clinical judgement.
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in Otolaryngology.
* Expert clinical opinion on head and neck surgery.
* Wide experience in ENT, elective and emergency outpatient and operative surgery.
* Substantive experience as a consultant surgeon.
* Experience delivering a head and neck diagnostic service.
* Evidence of effective multidisciplinary teamwork.
* Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
* Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
* Calm, compassionate, efficient under pressure.
* Experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research.
* Teaching clinical skills.
* Managing outpatient priorities and theatre lists.
* Managing and leading others.
* Audit management experience.
* Ability and willingness to work within Trust and NHS performance framework and targets.
* Enthusiasm and motivation.
* Application of research outcomes to clinical problems.
* Experience in airway surgery for upper airway stenosis.
* Experience running a voice clinic.
