Overview

The NRC will be a new, purpose-built 70-bed facility on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, delivering a centre of excellence to improve rehabilitation services in England. It is co-located with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre and will share some world-class rehabilitation facilities. With strong academic partnerships, research and innovation and training and education in rehabilitation embedded at the NRC and central to clinical practice. The post holder will be based permanently at the NRC, which plans to open in late Autumn 2025.

We are looking for an ambitious and dedicated highly specialist occupational therapist to join this journey to rehabilitation excellence, transforming outcomes for patients. The post holder will provide an effective specialist service in complex rehabilitation including assessment and advice/treatment, and contribute to the NRC's national ambition of training, education, research and innovation. You will work with and be supported by Highly Specialist OT colleagues within complex rehabilitation, including providing education and training, liaising across the specialty teams, with Therapy colleagues and wider multi-disciplinary teams within NUH, NRC and regionally.


Responsibilities

* Provide a specialist occupational therapy service in complex rehabilitation, including assessment, advice and treatment.
* Contribute to the NRC\'s national aims in training, education, research and innovation.
* Collaborate with Highly Specialist OT colleagues and cross-disciplinary teams within NUH, NRC and the region; contribute to education and training activities.
* Support service development and strategic objectives within the NHS Trust and NRC.


Location and Hours

This role will be permanently based at the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) which plans to open in late Autumn 2025. Details: Band 6, Permanent, Full-time, National Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall Estate, Loughborough, LE12 5GF.


Qualifications and Training

* Essential: Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Essential: HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
* Essential: Ability to maintain a professional portfolio for CPD, recording learning outcomes through participation in internal and external development opportunities.
* Desirable: Evidence of post-qualification training and development in neurological/complex rehabilitation.


Experience

* Essential: Experience with a wide variety of patients in acute, rehabilitation in-patient or community settings.
* Essential: Experience with patients who require a permanent wheelchair, including assessment of postural and pressure needs.
* Essential: Experience using evidence-based practice to inform practice and others.
* Essential: Experience of supervision, appraisals and delegation; experience in the clinical education of less experienced staff or student OT.
* Essential: Knowledge of national and local standards and RCOT guidelines; IT skills (Internet, Word, Outlook); experience contributing to service development and change management.
* Desirable: NHS experience.


Skills and Abilities

* Communication and Relationship Skills: ability to discuss treatment options, negotiate and motivate patients and carers; communicate effectively with MDT colleagues; maintain accurate patient records.
* Analytical and Judgement Skills: ability to reflect on performance, conduct risk assessments, and manage complex patients independently.
* Planning and Organisation: plan clinical activity to meet patient needs and prioritise caseloads; support junior staff in prioritisation.
* Physical Skills: ability to handle and move complex patients safely and promote rehabilitation.
* Other Requirements: flexibility to work across NUH campuses and participate in weekend/bank holiday rosters as required.
