Location: Newry / Hours: 36 per week / Rate: PAYE £17.37/hr Overview: A public sector organisation is seeking a dedicated and proactive District Warden to join their Neighbourhood Services team. This temporary role is to cover sickness absence and will involve enforcing a range of legislation, promoting community safety, and supporting animal welfare initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Patrol the district, including Council-maintained areas, to deter and detect stray or uncontrolled dogs and enforce relevant legislation. Act as a Council expert witness, seizing dangerous dogs and impounding where necessary. Investigate public complaints, liaise with agencies, and prepare reports, witness statements, and evidence for legal proceedings. Support education and awareness initiatives in schools, community groups, and with the general public. Maintain allocated vehicles and equipment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Enforce Council bye-laws including litter, street trading, and off-street parking regulations. Work collaboratively with PSNI and animal welfare organisations, including evening and weekend duties. Uphold Council values, governance, and equality standards in all activities. Candidate Requirements: Eligible to work in the UK. Experience in enforcement, animal welfare, or community safety is desirable. Strong knowledge of relevant legislation (Dogs Order NI, Dangerous Dogs Order, Welfare of Animals NI Act, Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act, etc.). Ability to work independently in challenging situations and use discretion in decision-making. Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
