For more than 50 years, Power Device Corporation (PDC) has been recognized as a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-reliability Connectivity, Power, and Control solutions for the Aerospace, Defense, and Space industries. Our dedication to supplying quality products, on-time delivery, and superior support contributes to the success of our customers and the critical missions they serve. We are a dynamic, growing organization, looking to add valued contributing members to our team.
This position is 100% onsite at our Bohemia, NY location, and it requires a U.S Person or a person who can qualify for a Department of State or Department of Commerce License. Willing to provide relocation assistance.
Position Summary:
PDC is seeking a Principal Analog / Mixed Signal Design Engineer experienced in developing devices with active and passive signal conditioning & conversion, switching power control, driver, and filter circuits, that are implemented using chip & wire hybrid, or SMT-CCA construction.
Key Responsibilities:
* Take primary technical leadership in the design, management, and support for our motion control product lines, including:
o Synchro / Resolver to Digital converters
o DATEL A to D, and D to A converters
o Switching-mode multi-phase Brushless DC Motor (BLDC) drivers & controllers
* This role requires a deep understanding of analog / mixed signal circuit analysis and design techniques to meet demanding dynamic range, EMI, noise, and power specifications. The candidate should possess strong technical leadership to guide our interdisciplinary engineering team through all phases of product development, from requirements and architecture to design, validation, verification, qualification, and support for manufacturing. The role also involves continuous obsolescence review and support for alternative part qualification or redesign to assist our military & aerospace customers in managing product lifecycle.
* Extract clear requirements and specifications from marketing inputs, customer documents, and meetings.
* Engage early with customers to guide requirements toward more realizable, high-value products.
* Distill large-scale designs into their architectural elements and develop innovative analog & digital hardware solutions, considering patent opportunities to secure competitive advantage.
* Generate reports, present findings, and provide ongoing feedback to the team, emphasizing good communication.
* Develop creative approaches to optimize complex design tradeoffs concerning cost, performance, features, time-to-market, and technical risk.
* Follow a defined design process, coordinate technical reviews, and facilitate good DFM outcomes in yields, cost, and performance.
* Manage support and verification activities, including thermal, electrical stress, worst-case, FMEA, tolerance, aging, and EMI analyses, as well as performance simulations and design verification.
* Develop project plans, budgets, schedules, and resource requirements, while identifying risks and developing contingency plans.
* Provide technical guidance and estimates to support business opportunities and proposals.
* Mentor, coach, and train engineers to enhance their technical and professional skills.
* Support legacy product lines and resolve new vendor materials or product issues.
* Investigate new methods, processes, techniques, tools, components, and technologies for quality and efficiency improvements.
* Conduct technical interviews and recommend hiring to build a capable engineering team.
Qualifying Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a graduate degree is preferred.
* Deep experience in analog circuit design, including:
o Multiple A/D architectures (multi-pass SAR, Flash, Sigma Delta, Pipeline) and D/A architectures (serial DACs, R2R, current steering, charge scaling)
o Low noise and high dynamic range techniques, sample acquisition and hold circuits, Bandgap references
o Oscillators, VCOs, Op-amps, Switched Capacitor Circuits, Active Filters, single-ended/differential circuits, PCB design for low noise and EMI
* Control theory, matrix mathematics, Z-domain transform, and digital control concepts.
* Sensors and detectors, including inductive, Hall, optical, LVDT, Synchro/Resolvers, and Encoders.
