Application Support Engineer

Purpose of the role
To effectively monitor and maintain the bank’s critical technology infrastructure and resolve more complex technical issues, whilst minimising disruption to operations.
Responsibilities
* Provision of technical support for the service management function to resolve complex issues for a specific client group.
* Development of the support model and service offering to improve service to customers and stakeholders.
* Execution of preventative maintenance tasks on hardware and software and utilisation of monitoring tools/metrics to identify, prevent and address potential issues and ensure optimal performance.
* Maintenance of a knowledge base containing detailed documentation of resolved cases for future reference, self‑service opportunities and knowledge sharing.
* Analysis of system logs, error messages and user reports to identify root causes of hardware, software and network issues, providing resolution by fixing or replacing faulty hardware components, reinstalling software or applying configuration changes.
* Automation, monitoring enhancements, capacity management, resiliency, business continuity management, front‑office specific support and stakeholder management.
* Identification and remediation or raising, through appropriate process, of potential service‑impacting risks and issues.
* Proactive assessment of support activities implementing automations to maintain stability and drive efficiency; active tuning of monitoring tools, thresholds and alerting.

* Serve as the technical resource for a group of clients, delivering high‑quality support.
* Maintain service continuity and minimal disruption.
* Document solutions and knowledge to aid future resolution.
* Engage with stakeholders to understand service requirements and provide solutions.

Qualifications
* On‑premise systems (Linux/Unix or Windows).
* Database technologies such as MS SQL or Oracle.
* Experience with Autosys/Middleware (MQ/Solace).
* ITIL principles; proactive attitude and strong learning desire.
Highly Valued Skills
* Investment banking support experience for front‑office/trading applications.
* Implementation of observability and monitoring solutions, e.g., ITRS, Elastic, Grafana.
* Understanding of asset classes: Macro, SP, Credit, Bonds, Equities.
* Experience working with Cloud Computing (AWS/Azure).
* Proficiency in scripting with Python, Shell/Bash.
