Business Development Manager
Telent Technology Services Limited is a leading technology company specializing in the design, build, operation, and maintenance of the UK’s critical digital infrastructure, drawing on decades of experience in mission-critical communications and technology.
The Business Development Manager 6 Highways will report to the Business Development Director, Highways and be responsible for achieving new orders within Telent's Highways business. The role focuses on business development and opportunity qualification activities to meet growth targets through contract renewal and new customer acquisition. The manager will lead virtual teams to achieve strategic objectives, own an account plan, and contribute to the Highways business strategy by identifying target markets, contracts, and customers to secure profitable growth.
The role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to secure new multi-million-pound contracts and maintain relationships with existing customers.
Responsibilities include:
* Maintaining and developing sales relationships with existing and new customers
* Developing an opportunity pipeline supporting growth aspirations
* Achieving profitable orders from both existing and new clients
* Contributing to proposals, presentations, bid submissions, and marketing communications
* Updating CRM system with account, contact, and opportunity details
* Leading marketing activities in collaboration with the marketing department
* Enhancing customer care and satisfaction scores
Candidates should have demonstrable experience managing key customer relationships (e.g., National Highways, Transport Scotland) and achieving sales targets, supporting sales and business development strategies.
Key deliverables include developing profitable opportunities, promoting solutions-based sales, working with technical teams, managing sales forecasts, analyzing market and competitors, and improving proposal quality.
Required skills and experience:
* At least 10 years of sales/business development experience with established contacts in the Highways market
* Experience in defining target markets and securing business through tenders
Qualifications:
* Engineering background or higher qualification (HNC or above)
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems
* Full, clean driving license
* Financial literacy for interpreting reports and models
Behavioral traits:
* Customer-focused with excellent communication and persuasion skills
* Leadership ability to lead virtual teams
* Personable and able to communicate effectively at all levels
* Accountable and proactive in exceeding targets
