An iconic public sector organisation is currently seeking a Digital Web Officer on for a 6 month initial contract to support the delivery, optimisation, and governance of a flagship corporate website.
Based in central London, this organisation offers a hybrid working pattern with 3 days on site per week. This will be offered on a day rate between £280 - £350 inside IR35 depending on experience.
The aim of this role is to manage, maintain, and improve the organisation's extensive website—ensuring content accuracy, accessibility, usability and alignment with digital best practice. This is a high-impact position supporting communications to the general public, City businesses, visitors, and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Website Management & Governance
Support the smooth operation of the City-wide website, including navigation structure and information architecture.
Undertake regular site audits to ensure content accuracy, consistency, and relevance.
Approve, edit and publish content using the Contensis CMS, ensuring compliance with house style.
Digital Content & Accessibility
Advise on WAI accessibility guidelines and ensure all content meets accessibility standards.
Edit, proofread, and restructure submissions for clarity, usability, and corporate style.
Provide guidance across the organisation on writing for the web, usability, accessibility and SEO practices.
Stakeholder Support & Collaboration
Act as a central point of contact for departmental teams needing web support.
Liaise with staff across the organisation to help shape content that meets user needs.
Train, onboard, and manage CMS editors, including issuing permissions and supporting their development.
Analytics & Performance
Respond to and resolve routine SEO and analytics issues.
Provide Google Analytics data, weekly and monthly reporting, and performance insights to departments.
Maintain dashboards and contribute to continuous improvement of digital performance.
Content Leadership
Serve as the Content Lead for the 'About Us' section of the website.
Ensure content is current, accurate, and reflects organisational priorities.
Coordinate with the wider matrix web team to maintain long‑term content quality and consistency.
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Demonstrated experience working with web content, CMS platforms, and digital publishing.
Strong understanding of accessibility standards, usability principles, and digital best practice.
Experience editing and proofreading content to a high professional standard.
Ability to collaborate with stakeholders across departments and support non‑technical users.
Technical & Personal Skills
Proficiency with CMS tools (Contensis desirable), content editing, and page creation.
Strong understanding of SEO fundamentals and analytics (including Google Analytics).
Excellent communication, stakeholder liaison, and problem‑solving skills.
Highly organised, detail‑focused, and proactive in managing digital tasks.
