About the role

As a Registered General Nurse you will be required to hold a valid NMC Pin and provide the details to Shaftesbury.

Your duties will include ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided to all people supported. You will be involved in assessments, medication administration and care planning implementation and evaluation.

Shaftesbury Treetop s is a high‑dependency, residential care home providing 24‑hour nursing and personal care for adults with disabilities, most of whom are younger.

Our home is a large accessible building. Our spacious and welcoming environment provides modern facilities with daily nursing care.


Main Duties

* To act as shift leader when allocated on the roster ensuring that all required tasks are undertaken and recorded to ensure the safety of the service user.
* To monitor that the unit is adequately staffed, bringing to the attention of the line manager where there are shortfalls in staffing levels and seeking approval for replacement cover.
* Act as a role model in the clinical setting demonstrating the delivery of evidence‑based, client‑centred care to service users with physical disabilities with or without a learning disability.
* Coordinate, prepare and participate in service user reviews including preparing appropriate reports prior to the meetings.
* Provide expert nursing advice and support to the multi‑disciplinary team caring for service users, especially within the residential home.
* Undertake quality standards monitoring and clinical audit system for care of service users with physical disabilities.
* Collaborate with the multi‑disciplinary team to ensure that the care delivered to service users, to their family or other carers is quality‑driven, in line with best practice and quality standards.
* Participate in holistic care plan meetings, multi‑disciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
* Promote a homely atmosphere where service users’ choice, rights, freedom and dignity are preserved.
* Work with the Deputy Manager to identify areas where change is required or opportunities exist for improving treatment, care and support for service users.


Additional Responsibilities

* Collaborate with colleagues to identify family and carers needs and advise residential staff on meeting these needs as appropriate.
* Ensure all stores and other areas of potential loss including confidential service user and staff information are secured at all times according to Shaftesbury policies and procedures.
* Report and record any complaints or compliments within the timeframes set by Shaftesbury policy and procedures and take remedial action after consulting with the unit manager / deputy.

* Be a key Nurse for individual service users with Nursing care package.
* Ensure that Shaftesbury policy and procedures are adhered to.
* Act as an educational resource for the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Provide specialist input on relevant in‑house training courses and specialist post‑registration courses.
* Receive clinical/line management supervision from the Deputy manager and participate in annual appraisal.
* Keep appropriate nursing knowledge up to date.
* Maintain professional registration with NMC ensuring Shaftesbury are updated with registration issues.
* Network with and establish effective relationships with residents, family/carers, professional and managerial colleagues.
* Work with colleagues on service user and family education where relevant.
* Network with and establish effective relationships with local PCT staff, GPs and other specialist multidisciplinary professionals.
* Participate in ensuring that effective communication systems exist between all involved in care of the service users.
* Collaborate with Unit Manager and other clinical specialists to create a climate of clinical enquiry through practice with regards to the delivery of care to service users with physical disabilities.
* Liaise with multi‑disciplinary team to identify areas of best practice that need to be researched and participate, where appropriate, in nursing and multidisciplinary research.
* Ensure that current literature and research are available to all involved in the care of Service users.
* Lead, manage and monitor the staffing teams via the management structure ensuring that employees are recruited, inducted, trained, supervised and appraised in line with Shaftesbury policies and procedure, whilst ensuring service provision is delivered within an efficient, effective and quality framework.
* Be responsible for and able to evidence own personal development by undertaking relevant training, attending meetings, conferences and events, ensuring that you are updated in all matters relevant to the role within your personal development plan agreed with your manager.
* Carry out additional duties and tasks that may be required within the range of the responsibilities of the post.

Qualifications and Person Specification

* Evidence of continued professional and personal development.
* GCSE or equivalent in Maths.
* Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) / Registered Nurse Learning Disability.
* ENB 998 or other relevant training qualification.
* At least 1 year of clinical experience within a care setting including supporting and supervising/apprising staff.
* Ability to lead a team of staff.
* Computer skills, including competent use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Good teaching skills both formal and informal.
* At least 1 year experience working with people with physical disabilities.
* Ability to work on own initiative and meet realistic deadlines.
* Good interpersonal skills, good report writing skills, excellent organisational skills, outgoing personality, self‑managed travel.
* Desirable: experience working in a service for people with disabilities.
