Overview
The Catering Assistant will actively participate in the daily operation of the Catering Unit under the direction of the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor. Team participation is essential to provide an efficient hygienic service, to achieve customer satisfaction and to promote sales within the unit.
Job Description
Job Title: Catering Assistant
Reports to: Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor
Responsible to: Catering Manager through appropriate Area Catering Manager
Main Purpose: To actively participate in the daily operation of the Catering Unit under the direction of the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor; ensure hygienic service, support customer satisfaction and promote sales.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
* Basic preparation of food and beverages, including preparation of vegetables and snacks using appropriate equipment.
* Simple cooking, including reconstitution of prepared food.
* Organising and controlling food service points.
* Transferring and serving meals and snacks, including transported meals.
* Assisting with promotion of meals to pupils, parents and principal.
* Maintaining regular contact with the central kitchen regarding service delivery.
* Preparing the dining area: setting tables, chairs, benches and serving points as required.
* Setting tables and laying out cutlery, water jugs, etc.
* Carrying out general kitchen and dining room duties including washing up and clearing away equipment.
* Cleaning the kitchen/servery, dining room and equipment including floors and walls.
* Recording temperatures for control purposes as required.
* Securing premises as required.
* Carrying out duties as delegated to support service provision and comply with legislative requirements.
* Promote and adhere to the Values/ethos of the School.
* Note: where part of school premises are used for dual purposes of food consumption and education, non-catering staff may be responsible for cleaning of the room.

Qualifications and Criteria
Essential Criteria
* Demonstrate on the application form, under each question, how and to what extent you meet the required criteria (essential and desirable where relevant).
* Meet the criteria by the closing date for applications unless stated otherwise.
* Shortlisting based on essential criteria; further exploration during interview/selection stage.
* Evidence of effective communication, teamwork, and ability to work under pressure; motivation toward providing good food and customer service.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of working in a customer service or catering role.
Disclosure of Criminal Background
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines regulated activity. If appointed to a post involving regulated activity, an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background will be required, and the applicant will meet the cost.
