Job summary
Part of the Devon Cluster, HMP Exeter is a category B men's reception prison with a small resettlement function, holding approximately 300 prisoners. The post includes a varied range of clinical responsibilities for prisoners, including severe and enduring mental illness, neurodiversity, personality disorders, learning disability, and head injuries. The work involves close multidisciplinary collaboration within the mental health team and alongside substance misuse and primary care teams in the prison. You will liaise with prison staff and probation, providing input into MAPPA meetings and pre-release meetings with community and inpatient teams.
The post holder will be Section 12 registered and appointed to a part-time, 8 PA role, supporting HMP Exeter mental health services and the full Oxleas service through senior leadership on site. A review meeting with the Clinical Director and Service Manager will be held within three months of appointment to revise the job plan and objectives, with annual reviews thereafter.
The role's programmed activities are split as 6 for direct clinical care and 2 for Supporting Professional Activities. There are no out-of-hours on-call commitments.
Main duties of the job
1. Clinical work - HMP Exeter
2. Assessing and reviewing prisoners; working with MDT and prisoners to develop management plans incorporated into individualised care plans.
3. Liaising with external services to arrange CPAs, aftercare plans, or hospital transfers.
4. Providing expert advice for individuals with complex mental states and risk presentations.
5. Participating in quality improvement initiatives, in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues and the supervising Consultant.
6. Maintaining high-quality patient records within the service.
