Customer Service Officer
In this role, you will provide 'front door' support for customers contacting Somerset Council, acting as the first point of contact for advice and assistance across various services. Your interactions will primarily be over the telephone, but may also include face-to-face and digital channels.
Responsibilities include:
* Handling enquiries from the public, professionals, and councillors with care and understanding.
* Providing quality advice and guidance, signposting to appropriate services.
* Supporting customers with issues such as safeguarding concerns, educational needs, and other council services.
* Ensuring excellent customer service with empathy, active listening, and professionalism.
* Adapting to a high-volume, sensitive, and emotive environment.
The successful candidate will support Children's, Families and Education initially, with opportunities to work across other services such as Council Tax, Waste, Highways, and more. The role offers hybrid working with one day per week in the office at County Hall, and flexible home or office-based days.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position until March 2026, working 37 hours per week, within service hours of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
