Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Defence Type: Contract - duration TBC Rates: Umbrella: £67/hr PAYE: £49.14/hr £7.14 holiday pay Location: Huddersfield Clearance: SC required – British nationals only Overview Morson is currently recruiting a Senior Manufacturing Engineer on behalf of our defence client in Huddersfield. This role will support manufacturing and assembly operations, providing technical expertise across complex, precision-engineered components within a regulated defence environment. Key Responsibilities Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to manufacturing and assembly teams Act as the interface between manufacturing, assembly, and engineering functions Lead PFMEAs, including process mapping, risk mitigation, and procedure development Support design reviews with a focus on manufacturability and right-first-time delivery Develop and improve manufacturing processes, tooling, and methods in line with safety regulations Interpret engineering drawings and produce manufacturing/stage drawings Drive continuous improvement activities across quality, cycle time, and process efficiency Support works order creation, routings, and technical documentation Required Experience & Skills Strong background in manufacturing engineering within a complex engineering environment Experience with rotating component manufacture (turning, milling, boring, grinding) Knowledge of gear manufacturing processes (e.g. hobbing, shaping, profile grinding) Strong understanding of GD&T and dimensional measurement systems Experience with CNC programming SAP experience within a manufacturing engineering context Competence in 2D & 3D CAD Understanding of heat treatment processes Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with production teams
