Hourly rate of pay: £ £21.75

The pay scale for this post is £35,494 - £39,692. Consideration will be given to place the successful candidate on higher point of the advertised salary scale, depending on relevant experience and transferable skills.

Temporary for 18 months.

Days and Hours of Work

Monday - Friday, 09:00-17:00

Flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible

Work for us

We have an exciting opportunity for a Roads Officer to deliver transport planning support to the Sustainable Travel team within East Lothian Council Roads Services. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has knowledge and experience of transport planning, and in designing and costing sustainable travel works packages using AutoCAD.

We utilise an Asset Management System as well as geographic information systems (GIS) with a view to optimising our resource and ensuring we maintain our road infrastructure in line with the Code of Practice. As well as office-based work is assessing, reviewing, prioritising and preparing orders, you may also be required to supervise works on site by the internal labour force and or external contractors ensuring works are completed in accordance with contract documentation and best practice.

The candidate will need to be confident with good verbal and written communication skills who can quickly establish good working relationships. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team of technical staff and will engage with a wide and diverse audience (technical and non-technical) as well as members of the public.

It is expected that the individual will be suitably educated to minimum HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience. You will be working within an office environment and will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within beautiful East Lothian. You will need to have an ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service.

Please Note

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications

Educated to HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

Driving Licence

As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.*
