This role is a substantive Consultant post within Older Persons Mental Health Services. The post-holder will provide consultant input into the Older Persons Recovery Team and the Memory Assessment and Treatment Service, including face‑to‑face assessment of complex cases and serving as one of the senior medical leads. The post makes up a total whole‑time equivalence of 1.4 WTE.
Responsibilities
* Provide consultant clinical input and conduct face‑to‑face assessment of complex cases.
* Act as a senior medical lead in the Older Persons recovery team and Memory Assessment and Treatment Service.
* Maintain a flexible weekly timetable to respond promptly to patients, carers and colleagues.
* Manage own diary and coordinate with a secretary as required.
* Participate in district‑wide service activities, including audit and clinical governance.
* Collaborate with other Older Adult Psychiatrists, nurses and psychologists to cover urgent duties during non‑clinical sessions.
Essential Qualifications
* Full registration with the GMC and license to practice.
* Entry on Specialist Register in or for Older Adult Psychiatry.
* Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English (e.g., undergraduate medical training in English or IELTS overall 7.5).
* Clinical supervision experience/skills and potential to develop leadership within the service.
* Ability to train and mentor junior medical staff.
* Experience in a range of psychiatry settings and understanding of audit and clinical governance principles.
Desirable Qualifications
* MRC Psych or equivalent higher qualification.
* Higher Specialist Training in Older Adult Psychiatry (e.g., SpR scheme).
* MD, management qualification or other professional qualification such as CBT, PSI, CAT.
* Prior experience working as a Consultant in Psychiatry.
* Evidence of a special interest and commitment to improving clinical care quality.
