Education, Health and Care (EHC) Assessment Officer
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)? We are looking for a dedicated and highly organised individual to join our team as an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Assessment Officer.
About The Role
In this vital role, you will manage the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) process and produce high‑quality EHC plans within statutory time‑frames, covering all educational phases from Early Years through to post‑16. You will gather and analyse information from a range of sources and collaborate closely with professionals across education, health and social care to identify and deliver meaningful outcomes. This is a hybrid role – you are required to work from the office 3 days per week.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Managing a large and varied caseload in a fast‑paced environment.
* Drafting clear, outcome‑focused EHC plans based on comprehensive assessments.
* Communicating regularly with parents/carers, education providers and multi‑agency professionals.
* Using data sets to inform your daily work and decision‑making.
* Leading and representing Medway Council at key meetings, including co‑production sessions, Ways Forward meetings and tribunals team discussions.
* Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
What We Are Looking For

* Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
* Sound understanding of SEND legislation and statutory processes.
* Confidence working independently and collaboratively in a multi‑agency environment.
* Ability to meet the language requirements outlined in Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.

All Medway Council roles use the career progression framework, which encourages employees to take ownership of their development and be rewarded accordingly. Your starting salary will be at level A, with the opportunity to progress to levels B and C based on CPF assessment.
