An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL) Cellular Pathology Department.

The post holder’s primary base will be the Pathology Department at University Hospital Lewisham. However, there will be occasions when the post may require attendance at any Trust site in the performance of duties, and the post will be rostered across all sections of the Histology Department.
Duties will include complex testing and investigation of clinical samples at a level appropriate to the qualifications and training of an experienced Biomedical Scientist. The post holder will be expected to take day‑to‑day technical charge of a section of the laboratory and to deputise for the Histology Operational Lead as required.
Assist in setting up and maintaining the Histology Department’s Document Control System, working closely with the Quality Manager and quality leads to keep documents organised and compliant. The post holder will also maximise participation in the CPD scheme and will retain personal state registration.
The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms‑length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Partnership is hosted by Barts Health and was formed in May 2021. Between 2021 and 2024 the Partnership undertook a complex transformation programme to establish a single network of laboratories, underpinned by a single Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and a single Quality Management System (QMS). The Partnership has a main hub laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) at six other hospital sites served by the Partnership.
The Partnership has three operational divisions:
* Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry
* Microbiology and Virology
* Cellular Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics
