Main duties of the job
As a Neonatal Research Nurse at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, you will be integral to delivering high‑quality clinical research in our neonatal unit. Your core responsibilities include identifying and recruiting eligible neonatal patients, obtaining informed consent from families, and collecting accurate clinical data. You will ensure all research activities comply with protocols, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
On a daily basis, you'll collaborate closely with clinical teams, research coordinators, and investigators to facilitate smooth study operations. You will monitor patient progress, manage documentation, and support safe, effective care tailored to the vulnerable neonatal population. Your role demands meticulous attention to detail to maintain data integrity and contribute to impactful research outcomes.
We are seeking a nurse with experience in neonatal or paediatric care, who is confident in engaging with families during sensitive situations. Qualifications
* Registered children's nurse on the NMC register
* Relevant degree or equivalent in paediatric nursing
* Or Registered adult nurse on the NMC register with relevant paediatric/neonatal experience
* Health care management / leadership qualification.
Experience
* Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
* Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
* Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
* Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
* Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
* Evidence of ability to lead / coordinate a shift /area of department
* Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.
* Evidence of Research knowledge
* Experience of clinical trials/ studies/ research coordination

* Willingness to work core shift patterns for the area Monday to Friday with occasional out of hours /weekend working

* Undertake a range of shift patterns to cover 24/7 period when working as part of a peer group with occasions of out of hours / weekend working
