Permanent

Working Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Salary: £53,300 - £57,000 depending on experience + flexible benefit package

Location: London Docklands (Hybrid).

The Financial Ombudsman Service has been resolving customer complaints since 2001. Our service is free for consumers to use and over 1 million people contact us every year.

The last few years have seen the Financial Ombudsman Service embark on an organisation-wide transformation journey. With the customer at the heart of everything we do, we have already delivered significant improvements in the service we offer and 2026 will see us continue with our ambitious transformation agenda.

This year, we created our new Chief Data Office as part of redefining our data strategy across the organisation. With data playing an increasingly vital role in our transformation journey, the CDO is shaping a modern, cloud-first data landscape that supports innovation, enhances decision-making, and strengthens our customer-centric approach. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Data team at the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Designing and maintaining conceptual, logical, and physical data models.

2. Ensuring data models support operations, business intelligence and analytics use cases.

3. Implementing and maintaining metadata and data dictionaries.

4. Reviewing and optimising existing data models for performance and scalability.

5. Ensuring data models align with data governance and security standards.

6. Mentoring junior data modellers and supporting their development.

7. Documenting data structures, relationships, and business rules.

8. Supporting data integration and transformation processes.

9. Communicating modelling decisions and rationale to technical and non-technical audiences.

10. Identifying opportunities to improve data modelling practices and standards.

Minimum Criteria

11. Experience in large-scale data warehouse/Lakehouse implementations transitioning from SQL Server-based data warehouses or similar complex projects. Strong ETL pipeline design and implementation skills.

12. Documenting, designing and aiding in the implementation of data models for data warehouses and analytics platforms.

13. Using data modelling tools such as ER/Studio, ERwin, dbt, or similar.

14. Writing complex SQL or Python queries and understanding data profiling techniques & cloud-based data platforms, Azure Synapse.
