Role Overview

Supporting the Public Health Team in their work to improve the health and wellbeing of Oldham residents and protect the population from threats to health. The apprentice will be expected to complete a degree course at the University of Salford.


Key Responsibilities

* Supporting the work of the Public Health Team in working across the Council, other public, voluntary and private sector organisations in Oldham to develop and deliver plans, policies and strategies to improve health and reduce health inequalities.
* Assisting members of the Public Health Team to plan, design and put in place public health services, and monitor their impact.
* To work towards being able to undertake analysis of data to describe the health of the population and produce written reports to describe key public health issues and work being proposed or undertaken.
* You may be asked to speak to, deliver presentations and engage with residents, community groups, officers in other teams within the Council or in other organisations, about a range of public health topics.


Key Requirements

* Good literacy and numeracy skills.
* Ability to use IT applications in relation to the requirements of the post.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Well organised, reliable, and punctual.
* Able to manage workload to meet deadlines.
* Attention to detail and accuracy in processing work.
* Willing to learn new skills.
* An interest in health and wellbeing and improving the health of Oldham residents.
* An interest in justice, fairness and reducing inequalities.
* Able to meet the entry requirements for the University of Salford Public Health Practitioner degree apprenticeship BSc (Hons). This includes (but not limited to) L2 Maths and English, certificates will need to be available at Interview.
* You must not already have a degree in Public Health.
* Be available to attend the University induction session 12th January 2026, and teaching sessions every Monday, commencing 19th January 2026.
