My client is looking for a Financial Controller to work at an Education Establishment around the Barrow-in-Furness area. This is a Full-time Permanent role, working all year round.
Salary: £38,397 – £41,898 per annum
Job Purpose:
The Financial Controller will be responsible for the operational leadership of all aspects of the finance function, ensuring financial services are provided efficiently across all sites in line with policies, procedures, and financial regulations. The post holder will ensure the financial control framework is robust and procedures are consistently followed. You will oversee the effective utilization of resources, staff, and budgets, providing a responsive service to managers and staff.
The successful candidate will be a part or fully qualified CCAB Accountant (ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS), with significant financial and management accounting experience in a medium-sized (>£15m turnover) organization, preferably in the public or third sector.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Financial:
* Control of daily financial and management accounting systems.
* Lead the preparation of year-end Financial Statements according to standards and ESFA requirements.
* Support the annual budget setting process and mid-year revisions.
* Produce monthly management accounts, cash flow reports, reconciliations, and statistical returns.
* Support budget holders with performance, forecasts, and financial needs.
* Advise on tendering and quotations for value for money.
* Coordinate with auditors, bankers, and specialists.
* Manage VAT returns and other ad hoc issues.
* Maintain the chart of accounts.
* Update Financial Regulations and Procedures, ensuring compliance.
* Administer accounting and payroll systems.
* Oversee supplier payments and debt collection.
* Prepare grant claims.
* Manage payroll, statutory deductions, and pension contributions.
* Handle cash management and banking.
* Control expenditure against budgets.
* Ensure value for money and compliance with legislation.
* Lead self-assessment and Quality Improvement Plans.
1. Management Tasks:
* Participate in management meetings.
* Represent the organization externally.
* Prepare for audits and inspections.
* Develop staff professionally.
* Lead the Finance Team.
* Support promotional and recruitment activities.
* Contribute to staff induction and training.
* Protect the establishment's reputation.
* Contribute to the risk register.
