Description Transport Scotland’s Operations is responsible for business areas including Intelligent Transport Systems (including the Traffic Scotland Service), Transport Resilience, Scottish Safety Camera Partnership, Trunk Road Casualty Reduction, Trunk Road Active Travel Delivery and Development Management. The proposed post sits within the Trunk Road Casualty Reduction Team but will also support Trunk Road Active Travel Delivery, Safety Camera Programme and Development Management elements of Operations’ overall responsibilities. The purpose of Trunk Road Casualty Reduction Team is to monitor road safety statistics for the Trunk Road Network, work with stakeholders, Operating Companies, SG colleagues and the public to identify mitigation for identified road safety issues across the Trunk Road network and to manage the delivery of road safety improvements to address these issues through the contracts of the Trunk Road Network Operating Companies (OCs). The TRCR team also provides Accountable Officers (Directors General and Agency Chief Executives), Ministers, colleagues and others with advice and information to inform them of progress towards the Scottish Government’s Road Safety Targets and other operational road safety matters on the Trunk Road Network. This in turn helps ensure that the Scottish Government’s high level objectives for road casualty reduction are achieved. The Trunk Road Casualty Reduction team is led by a C1 Trunk Road Casualty Reduction, Development Management and Trunk Road Active Travel Manager and consists of 3 B3’s, a Special Projects Advisor, 2 B2’s a Correspondence Officer and a Road Safety Data Analyst (this post), 2 B2’s (Graduate Posts), a B1 Road Safety Analyst and 2 A3 posts. As Road Safety Officer, you may have staff management responsibility for other members of staff. That responsibility brings with it the role of supporting team building and developing and training staff. You will also support the work of the TRCR team but will also where required support Trunk Road Active Travel Delivery, Safety Camera Programme and Development Management elements of Operations’ overall responsibilities. Responsibilities • Monitoring the programme and budget performance of the 4 Operating Company units delivery of Accident Investigation and Prevention measures through the use of the Contract Control and Management System, • Working with colleagues and stakeholders to Support the delivery of the Scottish Government’s targeted casualty reduction objectives, • Monitoring and collating accident statistics using existing databases and suitable analytical techniques, • Supporting development/delivery of policy initiatives such as 20mph limits for trunk roads, speed camera enforcement, implementation of the outcomes of wider road safety initiatives and administration of the Development Management, Road Safety and Active Travel Support Services Framework, • Contributing to the drafting of reports, responses to public letters and other forms of correspondence and briefings for Ministers, • Ensuring efficient back of house services working across enabling functions, • Providing efficient, effective and proactive support to a team, • Diary management, organising and preparing meetings and events, prioritising tasks and coordinating activity.
