Job Summary

Are you a caring, engaging and motivated pharmacist? If so, you could be well suited to this dynamic clinical role.

We are looking to recruit a highly committed band 8a Lead Pharmacist (Mental Health) to be part of the Trust Pharmacy team. This post will be based in Brighton and Hove and will cover the Urgent Care services for the locality, including the Haven, Crisis Response Home Treatment Team (CRHT) and Mental Health Liaison Teams (MHLT) based at local acute Trusts.

You will be offering advice on complex medicines queries alongside the delivery of direct patient care. The role focuses on assessment, treatment and broader care of patients who are acutely unwell in the community, typically with a broad range of needs concerning the safe and effective use of medications. The pharmacist will be a key member of the urgent care multidisciplinary team, embedded to provide advice and support while also acting with a degree of clinical autonomy in treating patients – for example, responsible for suggesting or implementing treatments, monitoring, follow‑up and transfer of care.

This post requires an enhanced DBS check with the adults barred list.

Responsibilities

The role includes:

* Providing medication advice and direct patient care to community patients and those in local acute trusts.
* Assisting in the promotion of parity of esteem within the mental health sector, meeting the mental health needs of patients admitted for unplanned or routine treatment.
* Supporting the pharmacy team’s strategy to reduce physical health risks among mental health and learning disability patients.
* Line management, medicines management and education for staff and patients.
* Acting as a clinical lead in the urgent care setting, including prescribing where appropriate and liaising with Designated Prescribing Practitioners (DPPs).
* Developing leadership and management skills in line with the NHS Healthcare Leadership Model.

While a non‑medical prescribing qualification is not required at the point of application, it is highly desirable. The successful candidate should be actively pursuing or already hold such a qualification.
