TSG is a growing, forward-thinking business delivering mechanical, electrical, building, and renewable solutions to a diverse client base. As we expand, we are seeking a proactive, commercially minded Bid Director to lead our bidding function, drive sustainable growth, and embed innovation – including the use of AI – across the bid lifecycle.
The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Bid Director will lead the bid team and take full ownership of our bidding function – from opportunity identification through to contract award. You will bring structure, leadership, and creativity to the end-to-end bid process while ensuring compliance, competitiveness, and quality.
You will shape the bid strategy and vision for the business and ensure a pipeline of high-quality opportunities is actively managed and converted. You will also play a hands-on role in writing, editing, and reviewing bid responses – combining strategic oversight with practical delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and project manage the bid process from ‘cradle to grave’
* Direct the Bid Team, providing clear direction, coaching, and mentoring – particularly to Bid Managers and the Bid Coordinator
* Lead the development of bid strategy, win themes, and value propositions aligned to client needs
* Oversee the Bid/No Bid process and ensure robust bid governance
* Champion innovation and the integration of AI tools and digital solutions to improve bidding performance
* Identify and qualify new opportunities to maintain a strong bid pipeline
* Ensure bids are compliant, compelling, and commercially viable
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and key clients
* Report regularly to the Board on pipeline activity, key opportunities, and strategic risks
* Take a hands-on role in writing and reviewing bid content
* Continuously develop the team through knowledge sharing and best practice
* Maintain a high-level view of what is required to win, while ensuring operational detail is fully addressed
About You
You will be a confident, strategic, and hands-on Bid Director with a strong track record of success in the M&E, building, or renewables sectors. You understand how to win work in a competitive market and are passionate about driving innovation, performance, and growth through a high-functioning bid process.
You will have:
* Proven experience leading and delivering winning bids in a senior capacity
* A deep understanding of the M&E, construction, or renewables sectors
* Experience writing compelling bid responses and managing full bid lifecycles
* Strong leadership, mentoring, and team development skills
* Excellent written English and attention to detail
* Commercial awareness and the ability to balance compliance with creativity
* Confidence reporting to senior stakeholders and influencing at Board level
* A proactive, strategic mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities
* Familiarity with AI applications in bidding (desirable but not essential)
