Paediatric Staff Nurse

We are seeking a motivated children's nurse to join the paediatric team to deliver high standards of care to children and their families. The post holder will work both on Alice ward and in Children's Outpatients.
Alice Ward is an elective 16 beds children ward, caring for children between 0-18 yr who require orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation. Our outpatient department runs both orthopaedic and medical clinics.
This is a part-time position.
Main duties of the job
Under the direction of the unit manager, the candidate will provide skilled nursing care within a multidisciplinary environment to ensure safe, individualised and effective care of children and their families. The role supports ongoing development of the paediatric unit, contributing to continuity of good team spirit and high standards of nursing care.
Key Requirements
You must be registered with the NMC as a Registered Children's Nurse. Applications received without this requirement will not be shortlisted.
Job responsibilities
1. Work at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviours, revalidation and relevant professional guidelines, independently / autonomously and at times without direct supervision.
2. Be accountable for own professional actions and those delegated to others.
3. Ensure accurate assessment of patient care needs, development of care plans, implementing and evaluating care based on patient needs.
4. Achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training; develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice (i.e. venepuncture, cannulation, ECG, urethral catheterisation and any other relevant duties).
5. Respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required.
6. Take charge of the practice setting as required.
7. Assume responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the nominated line/shifts coordinator. This may include representing the ward at meetings, link nurse responsibilities, audit, clinical governance initiatives and supervision and role competency assessments for unregistered staff and students.
8. Contribute to the development of service and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and outcome and ensure standards of care are monitored and maintained within the organisation.
9. Delegate appropriate and supervise the work of other staff registered or unregistered and students.
10. Assist with the induction and orientation and subsequent development of junior staff within the ward or department.
11. Maintain accurate nursing records ensuring all documentation is completed accurately and promptly.
12. Administer medications as described by local policy and in line with the NMCs standards for medicines management.
13. Adhere to organisational policies and procedures.
14. In accordance with individual patient care, utilising appropriate computer software and/or monitoring equipment, on a daily basis undertake and record patients observations.
15. Undertake if not already done so the mentorship program supported by The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital and local universities.
16. Handle cash, valuables and maintain stock control in the area of work, this may include being an authorised signatory for small payment on behalf of the department including authorisation of timesheets for temporary staff, ordering supplies on behalf of the department and handling patients valuables.
17. Undertake a two day EPALS course every 4 years as paediatric life support skills are essential. Pils training is to be updated annually.
Qualifications
* Registered as a Children's Nurse with the NMC

* Evidence of recent paediatric resuscitation training
* EPLS or Pils training
