About the Pupils and Their Needs
In these SEN settings, you may support pupils who:
* Have autism spectrum conditions with communication or sensory differences
* Experience moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD)
* Have speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN)
* Need support with social interaction and understanding social cues
* Have cognitive delays affecting processing and memory
* Experience sensory overload or benefit from structured regulation strategies
* Feel anxious around change, transitions, or unfamiliar staff
Consistency, reassurance, and clear routines play a key role in helping pupils feel settled and ready to learn.
The Role
As an SEN Supply Teacher, you will:
* Deliver pre-planned lessons and adapt activities to meet individual needs
* Follow established routines to maintain a calm and predictable environment
* Work closely with Teaching Assistants and follow guidance from SENCOs and class teachers
* Use visual supports, communication systems, structured teaching approaches, and sensory strategies
* Build positive relationships quickly to support engagement and behaviour
* Support personal care routines where required
* Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and reporting procedures
For longer-term placements, responsibilities may include planning and assessment, with pay in line with the Teacher Pay Scale (MPS/UPS).
