Overview
The post holder will be expected to undertake the normal duties and responsibilities associated with being a Respiratory medical practitioner within a community clinic.
Responsibilities
* Maintaining the highest clinical standards at all times and in accordance with accepted good medical practice
* Ensuring they will make themselves available to undertake virtual and face-to-face consultations as expected from a respiratory advanced clinical practitioner within a community clinic, in accordance with the timetable as agreed
* Knowledge and awareness of assessing inhaler technique
* Ability to carry out asthma and COPD reviews for diagnosed patients
* Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems and long-term respiratory condition management
* In consultation with patients and in line with evidence-based best clinical practice developing treatment plans
* Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
* Championing the organisation’s clinical governance programme for the provision of safe, high quality patient care
* Referring the patient back to their own GP for on-going management, whilst promoting upskilling
* P rescribing in accordance with local prescribing formulary (and generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
Qualifications and requirements
* The post holder will provide high quality Respiratory review services to patients referred to the Enhanced Respiratory Service from across Birmingham. They will support the Lead GP and clinical staff involved in the delivering of the service.
* They will be a clinical expert working to provide a comprehensive virtual assessment of patients presenting with non-urgent respiratory conditions and face-to-face review when deemed necessary.
* They will have completed their Independent Prescribing qualification having completed this in the field of respiratory medicine and be competent and demonstrate experience of initial assessment for diagnosis and management of long-term respiratory conditions.
* A current awareness of NICE/SIGN/BTS/GOLD and GINA guidance for asthma and COPD is necessary as well as BSol ICB respiratory treatment guidance.
* As a Qualified Clinical Pharmacist, you will have significant post qualification experience in the field of Respiratory disorders and a clear understanding of respiratory management pathways.
* With strong communication and organisational skills and a flexible approach, you will work collaboratively with patients and service team members to facilitate the best possible patient experience and outcomes.

As part of the commitment to improve access to healthcare across the local area we are establishing a GP Led Specialist Respiratory Clinical Review Service to provide a community-based service to improve asthma and COPD care across the Birmingham. The service will deliver enhanced respiratory care and diagnostics (Spirometry/FeNO) from multiple sites across the city to promote patient choice and accessibility and deliver quality care closer to home.
