Healthcare support worker aa

Kirkcaldy
NHS Scotland
Support worker
Posted: 30 August
Offer description

The Day Intervention Unit at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy includes Day Surgery, Endoscopy, and Interventional Radiology. This position will primarily be based in the endoscopy decontamination room, but flexibility to work across all specialties within the unit is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team within the Day Intervention Unit at Victoria Hospital.

The Fife Wide Endoscopy service operates across three sites:

* Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy: 4 endoscopy rooms and 21 recovery beds
* Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline: 2 endoscopy rooms and 8 recovery beds
* St Andrews Community Hospital: 1 endoscopy room and 8 recovery beds

The successful candidate will be based in the endoscopy decontamination unit at Victoria Hospital, with possible rotation to Queen Margaret and St Andrews hospitals.

A significant part of this role involves cleaning, disinfecting, reprocessing, and maintaining endoscopes and equipment. Due to the high cost of this equipment, a robust education and mentorship program is in place to support learning. Strict infection control procedures must be followed during reprocessing. Effective communication skills are essential, as priorities may shift during the day, requiring clear communication between teams.

You will also be expected to assist in endoscopy procedures, provide patient care in the admission and recovery areas, and undertake housekeeping tasks. Completing the Mandatory Induction Standards for New Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) is required.

The successful candidate will need to complete nine modules of the NES Decontamination of RMDs (Reusable Medical Devices) Endoscopy Programme.

There are opportunities to develop additional skills such as venepuncture, monitoring patient vital signs, and blood glucose testing, supported by mentoring.

For further information, contact Senior Endoscopy Support Nurse and Endoscopy Decontamination Manager Anne Haythorne at 01592 643355, ext 29906, or SCN Katie Black at ext 29688.

A requirement of this post is to join the PVG Scheme prior to appointment.
