The Opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke has an opportunity for an Electrical Design Manager to join our team on prison projects, initially based in Sale, Manchester. Current projects are in Lancashire and Buckinghamshire, with the role moving to the site when the project progresses.
A Laing O'Rourke Design Manager ensures that all design information is reviewed and delivered according to design management procedures, ensuring completeness and contractual compliance, considering factors like programme, buildability, safety, maintenance, and technical suitability. The Design Manager oversees the production, control, and distribution of design information at various project stages and ensures regular progress reporting.
The Design Manager is a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, dedicated to ensuring technical excellence, assurance, and performance across all projects, from pre-project to detailed delivery. Our designers are part of our Engineering Enterprise, aiming to maximize design potential to increase project certainty.
What will the role look like?
* Supporting consultant teams to maximize effectiveness and value in providing integrated design solutions that meet client and business needs (strategies and budgets).
* Enhancing the effectiveness of consultant relationships.
* Reviewing design delivery to improve quality and efficiency in solutions, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and handover.
* Supporting consultants in adopting Laing O'Rourke's design processes, delivering with rigour and quality project management, and ensuring effective supply chain collaboration (including tools like BIM/Digital Engineering).
* Capturing business knowledge for continuous improvement, innovation, and capability development within the Engineering Enterprise.

* Information and Change Control
* Design compliance
What skills & experience are we looking for?
* Experience in prisons / justice projects
* Alternatively, a strong modular construction background
* Experience managing design end-to-end, from concept to handover
* Sector specialism with broad experience managing the design of construction or building services projects
