Temporary Housekeeping Porter
£12.71 per hour | Full-Time | Immediate StartLocation: Reading
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Housekeeping Porter to join a busy Estates & Services team on a temporary basis. This is a practical, hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys physical work and takes pride in keeping environments clean, safe and well-maintained.
What You’ll Be Doing
As part of the Housekeeping Portering team, you’ll support the day-to-day running of the site by carrying out essential porterage and outdoor maintenance duties, including:
* Collecting and delivering laundry to boarding houses
* Managing rubbish and recycling across the site, including use of waste compactors
* Maintaining the central waste and recycling area
* Sweeping and cleaning all external areas
* Removing cobwebs and debris from building exteriors
* Cleaning external paintwork (to stretch height) and lower-level windows
* Using high-pressure washers for paths, buildings and chewing gum removal
* Delivering cleaning materials and supplies to Housekeeping staff
* Assisting with furniture moves when required
* Responding to ad-hoc tasks set by the Events & Facilities Manager
* Supporting the Housekeeping team during busy periods
* Reporting any incidents, damage or safety concerns promptly
Working Hours
* Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm
* 37.5 paid hours per week, including:
o 15-minute paid tea break
o 30-minute unpaid lunch break
* Weekend rota during term time (around 10 weekends per year), 7:00am – 12:00pm
What We’re Looking For
* Physically fit and comfortable with manual work
* Happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions
* Reliable, punctual and a good team player
* Basic awareness of health & safety
* Previous experience in porterage, facilities, caretaking or housekeeping is helpful but not essential
