NES Fircroft is currently recruiting a Research & Development Associate on behalf of our client. The role will be based at a world-leading International Research Centre at Jealott’s Hill, Bracknell. This is a contract position for an initial 12-month duration with the possibility of long-term extension. Mon-Fri, 36 hours per week.


The Role:

The purpose of the Research & Development Associate is to support Weed Control Research Biology on the SPS (Secondary Profiling Screen) platform by spraying and maintaining plants in the glasshouse to deliver timely, quality data to herbicide research projects.

The job holder will work in the Trialling Operations team within Technical Support - Weed Control and will be required to spray and maintain herbicide bioassays in the glasshouse, using established and novel weed screening methods to produce biology data for project decisions.


Responsibilities:

* Work independently and as part of a team while carrying out experimental work using established and novel screening methods.
* Maintain plants under glasshouse conditions for the duration of the test.
* Be accountable for work being done with precision, accuracy, and efficiency.
* Perform all activities in accordance with the Syngenta Health, Safety, and Environmental Policy.
* Work efficiently in a high-throughput team environment.
* Identify issues, non-conformities, and report them.
* Accurately keep records and update databases.
* Involved in training for daily tasks.
* Maintain a good work ethic and work consistently in the role.
* Proactively identify problems and assist in solving them.
* Show initiative to improve the screening platform's workflows.


Skills:

* General knowledge of plant biology; ideally also with knowledge of weed control and some agronomy.
* Entry-level knowledge of laboratory techniques.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
* Good analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
* Attention to detail and good communication skills.
* Flexibility and adaptability.
* Ability to learn new tasks quickly, self-starter, and team player.
* Strong self-motivation, self-management, and time management skills.


Education:

* BSc Degree or A-levels plus experience in a related field preferred.
