We are seeking an exceptional and dedicated 1:1 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support for a specific child with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a welcoming school setting located near Darwen, Lancashire. The Role You will be crucial in ensuring a primary-aged pupil with ASC can access the curriculum, thrive socially, and develop essential independence skills. Contract: 1:1, Full-Time (Term-Time Only) Location: Primary School, Darwen Area Start Date: January 2026 Key Responsibilities Individualised Support: Implement the pupil's Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), focusing on specified learning and developmental targets. Creating a Calming Environment: Utilise strategies to manage sensory needs, reduce anxiety, and promote a predictable, supportive learning space. Communication: Employ appropriate communication methods (e.g., visual aids, PECS, Social Stories) to facilitate understanding and expression. Social & Emotional Growth: Support the pupil in developing positive peer relationships and understanding social cues. Behaviour Support: Manage and proactively de-escalate challenging behaviours using positive behaviour management techniques and understanding the function of behaviour. What We Are Looking For Essential Skills & Experience Proven experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Strong understanding of SEN principles, including sensory integration, communication difficulties, and emotional regulation. Knowledge of specific Autism support strategies (e.g., TEACCH, Makaton, PECS, visual timetables). A patient, resilient, calm, and nurturing approach. Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents. A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2/3 or equivalent) is highly desirable.
