Overview
Environmental Practitioner Level 6 Apprentice wanted to support the integrated environmental planning team. The team focuses on improving water environment and managing water resources, producing environmental evidence to inform local priorities and investment. You will work with a wide range of environmental data and information across water resource and water quality management. The apprenticeship combines on‑the‑job learning with structured training.
Location: base in Bridgwater or Blandford with flexible working patterns where possible. Some travel to internal meetings and site visits may be required. The role may attract additional payments for incident response work, with full training provided.
Responsibilities
* Support the environmental planning team with on‑the‑job training and learning to develop skills in managing environmental data to inform decisions.
* Contribute to gathering, analysing, interpreting, recording, and sharing environmental data and information to support decision making.
* Assist in delivering environmental evidence to improve water environment and water resource management.
* Respond to incidents as part of an incident role (availability required) and assist with business continuity during incidents, with training provided.
* Participate in a blended learning approach including workshops, digital delivery, and one‑to‑one coaching, with support from a Talent Coach and a wider apprentice community.
Qualifications and Experience
* Demonstrable interest in the natural world (e.g., study, volunteering, etc.).
* Qualification(s) that provide the required UCAS points (103). The apprenticeship is a funded 53‑month program leading to a degree‑level qualification.
* Not suitable for those who already hold a Level 6 degree in a similar subject; those with Level 6 qualifications in an unrelated subject may apply.
* Eligible to work in the UK; over 18; no upper age limit specified; UK resident for at least three years.
* Experience with Excel; willingness to learn databases and geographic information systems.
* Good verbal and written communication skills; effective planning and the ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines; sound data‑driven decision making.
* Desirable: Full UK Driving Licence.
Candidate Information
* You will complete an Environmental Practitioner Level 6 Apprenticeship through online learning and remote workshops. Offers of employment are subject to enrolment acceptance by the relevant institution.
* A minimum number of paid hours will be allocated to apprenticeship training; the remainder spent learning on the job.
* Interviews are expected to be held in the Bridgwater office area (W/C 3rd November, face‑to‑face).
