Overview
To provide a friendly and welcoming point of contact to anyone interested in adopting a dog from Stray Aid. Working alongside the Rehoming Supervisor to review registration forms to try and identify suitable matches, booking in appointments and conducting introductions. Cleaning rehoming kennels and ensuring dogs are well cared for, including daily exercise/enrichment and training where needs are identified.
Our job is not easy at the best of times, so having a positive, can do attitude is vital. The position can be physically demanding and you may be on your feet all day. You will be required to work outside in all weathers.
Working 8am-5pm, 4 days on, 2 days off on a rolling rota to include weekends and bank holidays.
Tasks and responsibilities:
* Maintain a high standard of care and welfare to all dogs, and ensure the kennels, runs and surroundings are kept clean and tidy at all times.
* Prepare feed in accordance with individual dogs' requirements, and meet the welfare needs by following any administration of medical treatments.
* Complete daily kennel and behaviour records.
* Welcome all potential adopters on their arrival at the centre in a friendly, professional and timely manner.
* Take phone calls, and respond to emails regarding adoptions.
* Explain the adoption procedure and help visitors complete adoption application forms.
* Carry out adoption introductions, introducing the dog to their potential new family.
* Get to know your dogs for adoption and work with the Rehoming Supervisor to identify any areas where they would benefit from training, exercise, enrichment etc.
* Assist the Rehoming Supervisor in identifying the type of home that would suit them best.
* When space is available, help to identify dogs that would be suitable for adoption and work with the vets to book them in for initial health check and vaccinations.
* Assist Rehoming Supervisor with coordinating volunteers (dog walking, grooming, training etc.).
* Attending external events to raise the profile of the charity and introduce dogs in the community.
* Help with any other tasks as requested by management.
