Vacancy details: Talent pool; Operations - HE - Professional Services; Title: Student Welfare Advisor; Contract type: QA HE Ltd FTC; Job advert: Student Welfare Advisor to Students within Higher Education; Location: Birmingham; 3-Month Fixed Term Contract; Hybrid Working (2 days working from home); Hours: Monday – Friday 8.30-5pm & 9-5.30pm & 9.30-6pm.
We are looking for someone with experience in supporting and guiding students or clients or patients in need of advice, information or help, who is calm, collected and reassuring.
Responsibilities
* Provide advice, guidance and information on personal, predominantly welfare and disability related issues to students at each stage of the learner pathway.
* Advise Faculty and Business Support teams on supporting students to overcome personal barriers to learning, working with partner Universities to provide a structured system of support in line with policies.
* Deliver professional services (externally where necessary) to ensure students have access to appropriate support, including counselling, learning and disability support, signposting to external agencies when appropriate.
* Assess safeguarding risks and deliver training to staff; be a member of the safeguarding team.
* Ensure the provision of safeguarding and welfare services, including one-to-one appointments, workshops and events, accommodation advice and support, funding/financial advice and student health advice within specified policies.
* Provide emergency support for students in immediate distress when required.
Qualifications & Experience
* Ability to be a credible source of guidance and support to academic and professional services colleagues on student issues that may evoke concern and risk and duty of care (e.g., mental health, urgent incidents, fitness to study, safeguarding).
* Proven track record of developing and/or implementing inclusive policy and practice in an organisational context.
* Experience in Higher Education is ideal but not essential.
* Experience of developing and embedding good practice into service delivery.
* Knowledge in areas such as child protection, safeguarding of adults at risk, prevent legislation, state benefits, housing legislation would be ideal.
* Up-to-date knowledge of inclusion, disability and diversity legislation and frameworks.
