Overview
Survey Engineer based in Portchester, Hampshire contributes to the successful delivery of complex marine projects while developing technical capability and professional confidence. The role involves working with advanced metocean equipment, supporting offshore campaigns and participating in project planning and execution. Responsibilities
* Use, maintain and troubleshoot metocean equipment including wave buoys, tide gauges and meteorological stations
* Keep accurate equipment records and ensure all assets are handled with care
* Support and eventually supervise survey work, including mobilisation and demobilisation
* Mentor newer team members in survey tasks and safe working practices
* Identify safe working methods and carry out dynamic risk assessments
* Help improve survey practices and report safety observations
* Assist project managers with planning survey operations and liaising with vessel crews
* Support decisions on equipment and mooring purchases
* Complete required health, safety, quality and environmental documentation
* Take responsibility for small projects or act as a deputy on larger ones
* Maintain routine client communication
* Provide technical and operational input for tendering
* Carry out office RCMP duty, including out of hours
* Troubleshoot operational issues and look for ways to improve safety and efficiency
* Write and review operational, technical and data analysis reports
* Peer review survey documentation and log sheets
* Process datasets, create clear data displays and compare results with other sources
* Follow company health, safety and quality systems and minimise environmental impact
* Maintain a positive and professional approach to work and support colleagues
What You’ll Need To Thrive In This Role
* A bachelor’s degree in oceanography, science, instrumentation, engineering, electrical or mechanical disciplines or an equivalent vocational qualification
* At least one year of relevant experience in a technical or operational discipline
* Intermediate knowledge of oceanographic and metocean principles
* Intermediate capability in marine operational planning
* Intermediate skills in data acquisition and data analysis
* Proficient communication skills
* Valid Global Wind Organisation or Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training certification
* Valid first aid certification
* Valid offshore medical certification such as OGUK or ENG1
* Working at height certification
* Slinger and signaller certification
* A full driving licence
* Proficiency in English
* Ability to travel offshore for approximately seventy to one hundred days per year, including time away during weekdays and weekends
* Ability to provide out of hours support when required
* Physical and medical fitness suitable for offshore work
* A positive and professional attitude toward colleagues, clients and work tasks
* Willingness to support teamwork and take on additional duties when needed
* Commitment to high standards of health, safety and environmental performance
* Ability to use company reporting platforms for safety observations and incident reporting
