Development Manager
Overview
Music in the Round is seeking a Development Manager who is passionate about what we do, and can develop excellent relationships with a wide range of funders, supporters, donors, participants, staff and organisations. Getting to know existing supporters and Trustees is vital, as is gaining a thorough understanding of our wide range of activity and musicians. This role involves submitting bids to trusts and foundations in collaboration with the Chief Executive, Head of Programmes and with support from other colleagues in the organisation, including identifying new funding opportunities and writing applications. It also includes creating a cultivation plan to develop and inspire increased support from existing and new supporters, working closely with the Chief Executive and Trustees, as well as take the lead on approaches to existing supporters and new donors.
Music in the Round has supporters who have been involved with us since our earliest beginnings in the 1980s, as well as new ones joining us today. We are looking for someone who can build on the warmth many people have towards the organisation as we plan our activity for the future and move into Harmony Works. Key Responsibilities
The Development Manager will work across all income streams, primarily focusing on trusts & foundations as well as individual giving and business development. This includes developing and securing new relationships whilst nurturing our current supporters and Friends who have such a strong relationship with Music in the Round. Instigating and overseeing a range of initiatives and events to seek new opportunities within the local area, this role will work closely with the Chief Executive, Trustees and staff to develop and implement a fundraising strategy that expands the range and breadth of our sources of income.
Job Description
Raising support and funds
* Meet agreed annual fundraising targets through significant one-off gifts, online giving, the Friends’ scheme and targeted appeals such as Big Give
* Lead on applications to trusts and foundations, with support from MitR staff as required
* Develop and implement new fundraising approaches where appropriate, including local businesses
* Stay in regular touch with new and existing supporters to encourage new or increased giving, adopting a personal and tailored approach
* Identify new routes, channels and audiences to expand the prospect pipeline and develop compelling proposals for funding
Developing and stewarding our community of donors
* Identify, research and develop new support by including supporting the Trustees and staff where appropriate to meet with potential supporters and contacts
* Update and maintain supporter records and development pipeline using our CRM, Salesforce
* Organise and deliver supporter cultivation and stewardship events, liaising with musicians, Trustees and staff as appropriate
Managing the Friends scheme
* Overseeing the delivery of the Friends membership scheme, including providing an excellent programme of donor stewardship, and range of membership benefits, such as events
* Meet annual Friends recruitment, upgrade and attrition targets
* Plan and deliver recruitment campaigns as appropriate throughout the year
Communications and marketing
·Create and maintain compelling cases for support, with tailored proposals and timely reporting to funders as required
·Draft and manage communications going out to individual supporters, including season announcements, other news, updates and invitations
·Be present at key events and concerts to network with associates, local dignitaries, Friends, sponsors, funders, venue promoters and other partners
·Work with the Marketing & Communications Manager to ensure Music in the Round’s website and social media are regularly updated with relevant fundraising information
Planning, reporting and data management
* Develop an annual action plan for individual giving to include philanthropic year-on-year giving and fundraising for specific projects and targeted appeals in liaison with the Chief Executive
* Continually monitor progress against targets, ensuring fundraising costs stay within budgeted expenditure
* Monitor monthly fundraising income and report progress to agreed targets
* Liaise with the Finance Manger to ensure that management accounts reflect expected, received and forecasted income figures
* Be responsible for maintaining Music in the Round’s Salesforce database, recording applications, donations, memberships, prospects and events in liaison with the Finance Manager
* Manage the organisation’s CAF account and online giving portals
* Work with the Finance Manager to manage the processing of Gift Aid for individual gifts
* Ensure that all data complies with internal procedures and general data protection regulations
Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone with experience who can demonstrate the following:
* Experience as a front-line fundraiser, with a proven record of successful applications to trusts & foundations, cultivating gifts and ‘making the ask’
* Experience of individual donor approaches from research through to soliciting and securing gifts
* Excellent track record of stewardship and building relationships with donors
* Experience of working to, and achieving, financial targets and KPIs
* Enthusiasm for the arts, and music in particular
* Ability to gain a thorough understanding of priority projects and our wide range of activity
Salary
This is a part-time permanent position. It is being advertised at 21 hours per week.
The salary for this role is £19,675 (FTE £32,791 per annum)
Office base
The post will be based at the company’s office: Music in the Round, 4th Floor, Sheffield Central Library, Surrey Street, Sheffield S1 1XZ. Optional working from home and flexible hours.
Holiday
17 days per annum including public holidays (28 pro rata), rising to 20 days after two years in post (33 pro rata). All staff are given additional annual leave between Christmas and New Year.
