Overview
To work as part of a team which provides care andtreatment to individuals with mental ill health. To provide direct careaccording to the needs of the service users and within the care programmeapproach/care management framework.
To provide support, give time to an allocated groupof service users and, therefore, promote recovery, assisting in maintaining thelinks with their community environment.To assist the Care Co-ordinator /key nurse in the planning,implementation and evaluation of individual care plans.
Main duties
* Be able to communicate effectively, be empathetic,compassionate and patient with service users.
* Be non judgemental in approach and think and actcalmly.
* Maintain confidentiality; promote a therapeuticenvironment, which acknowledges diversity and cultural difference.
* Demonstrate a good understanding of mental healthissues.
* Ensure that service users engage effectively withthe agreed care plans and access appropriate activities provided on a regularand consistent basis.
* Positively promote independent living of serviceusers.
* To be able to communicate routine information in anarena where there will be barriers to understanding, and to be able to use tactand persuasion in a non aggressive manner.
* Develop a rapport based upon companionship andfriendship, but within appropriate and transparent boundaries.
* Provide regular and practical support to serviceusers and their carers in developing and managing dignity and independence.
* Provide support with daily living activities and beprepared to assist with practical tasks (feeding, bathing etc).
* To maintain adequate records, as required byexisting procedures, entering appropriate details in the service users casenotes, as necessary.
* Take into account the requirements of the Healthand Safety at Work Act, Infection Control, food hygiene regulations.
* Attend and participate in agreed training,development and supervision sessions, as an individual and part of the team.

Qualifications
* Previous experience in a health care environment as a support worker / health care assistant / nursing assistant.
* Experience working in mental health.
* Literacy and numeracy skills
* NVQ Level II in Care
* Care Certificate
* Specific competence required (driver)

* Ability to respond to the individual rights/needs/opinions of service users
