The Audiology service in Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBU HB) is looking for a Senior Audiologist to be a key member of the Hospital Based Audiology team.

The Audiology service in SBU HB provides hearing and balance assessment, advice and management to adult and paediatric patients in primary, community and hospital settings across the area.

Main duties of the job

The postholder may be expected to perform audiological investigations, create individual patient management plans, take aural impressions and prescribe hearing aid systems using real ear measurements for both complex and routine adults and routine paediatric patients. They may also be expected to carry out domiciliary visits to housebound patients and visit patients on hospital wards to carry out hearing aid maintenance. Dependent on experience and training, they may also undertake routine balance assessment and rehabilitation. They will mentor trainees within the service, coordinating training activities and they will also lead and contribute to service audits and developments.

The post is 24.375 hours per week. There are limited flexible working options available which can be discussed with the recruiting manager. The base will be Singleton Hospital but the successful applicant will be scheduled to work at other sites within the Health Board area on a regular basis.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. BSc or MSc Audiology from an accredited university or equivalent
2. Eligibility for AHCS registration as an Audiologist or HPCP registered as a Clinical Scientist in Audiology
3. Good knowledge of British Society of Audiology protocols

Desirable criteria

4. MSc Audiology from an accredited MSc Audiology course or equivalent
5. Knowledge of specialist equipment

Experience

Essential criteria

6. To have worked as a qualified audiologist or as a clinical scientist in audiology

Skills

Essential criteria

7. Ability to communicate technical and scientific information to colleagues and manufacturers/ suppliers
8. Excellent manual dexterity for the control/repair of general specialist equipment

Aptitude
